I found this recent article on the evolution of the product manger role of particular interest. I'm certainly of the opinion that the value added by a product manager goes far beyond execution and overseeing the engineering of a product. Instead, there is a growing need for product teams to work more closely with other departments in an organisation, with a particular focus on using data to drive the product of the future. I agree with the prediction made by McKinsey that utilising insight from customers as well as the client facing departments of an organisation, will result in a far superior product offering.
